Joe Biden, elected president of the United States, wrote an article in Atlantic magazine explaining why he chose Austin as the Defense Minister.
Stating that the USA needs an “experienced” leader in the face of the difficulties it is currently facing, Biden stated that Austin “played a very important role in bringing 150 thousand American soldiers home from the battlefield” in Iraq.
Expressing that Austin honorably represents the United States as a statesman, Biden said, “Today I want Lloyd Austin to take on a task for the US once again and this time to become the US Secretary of Defense. I know.” used the expression.
Biden stated that Austin served in the US military for more than 40 years.
AUSTIN WILL BE THE FIRST BLACK TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE MINISTRY OF DEFENSE IF APPROVED AT SENATO
Austin is known to be the first black in the US to command a combat command, and if approved in the Senate, he will be the first black person to become Minister of Defense.
Austin, who has a more apolitical line in his opinion, was on the board of directors of Raytheon defense company after retiring in 2016.
In the USA, a person cannot be appointed to any senior civilian position in the Ministry of Defense for up to 7 years after leaving the military profession.
As he retired in 2016, Austin needs to give an exemption from this legal situation, as congress gave Jim Mattis, nominated by US President Donald Trump in 2017.
It is also alleged that many congressmen did not want to grant Austin an exemption in this regard.
